Course info

This course is made up of the physical science, mathematics and computing required in analysing engineering systems, and the design and manufacturing knowledge needed in order to make things. A laboratory programme is built into the degree so that the student can acquire the skills they need to test a product which they have analysed and built. It is designed to enable students to: pursue professional careers in mechanical engineering at a level which requires sound judgement, personal responsibility and initiative; develop a detailed understanding of the principles of mechanical engineering science; develop skills to apply engineering principles to produce original analyses of, and solutions to, engineering problems; focus on a broad range of specialist fields within Mechanical Engineering through selected option groupings; provide a high level of technical leadership; use initiative, effective communication and interpersonal skills; offer a wide range of subject options after the first two years; students normally proceed to become Chartered Engineers via membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
