Kate Robinson appointed as University Librarian

Kate Robinson, former Head of the Library’s Academic Services, has been appointed to the post of University Librarian.

Kate has worked in corporate, public and academic libraries prior to joining the University Library in 1998.  She has published research on using social technologies and QR codes to enhance library services and was also recently elected to Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Library & Information Professionals.

Kate said: “I am looking forward to building on what we already have. We have a brilliant library and these are very exciting times with the continued transition from print to digital. Libraries are no longer just buildings but are virtual as well as physical spaces. Students have choices about how they access information that they never had before.”

“On a personal level, I have only just stopped smiling. I’m delighted!”

Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell, Vice Chancellor, said: “I am very pleased to announce Kate’s appointment, both for the Library staff who will have an experienced and imaginative leader, and for our students, who can look forward to the service developing to meet their needs in ways they couldn’t have imagined even a decade ago.”

Kate replaces Howard Nicholson who retires this month after 20 years with the Library.
