University of 3rd Age Bolton, The Third Age is the period of time after the First Age (meaning childhood) and the Second Age of full-time employment and/or parental responsibility. By joining the local U3A you will become a member of a growing, dynamic, outward-looking organisation which has a positive and creative approach to retirement. We meet on 4th Friday of the Month, 2pm – 4pm., at St Andrew and St George URC, St Georges Road, Bolton, BL1 2BS. We invite guest speakers to talk to us on a variety of subjects. Our members also contribute, either singly or in groups when, for example, our choir helped by other groups provides an entertainment. Our membership continues to grow and is approximately 350 at the moment. We have various interest groups including: Archaeology, Art Appreciation, Art Creaters (sic), Bowls (Indoor), Bridge, Cardcraft, Classical Civilisations, Creative Writing, Crown Green Bowling, Digital Photography, European Studies, Folk Song Group, French, French Conversation, Gardening, German, History of Medicine, Local History, Mah-Jong, Mandarin, Music Appreciation, Musical Choice, Philosophy, Play Reading, Poetry for Pleasure, Psychology, Quiz Group, Reading Group, Russian Language and Culture, Saturday Ramblers, Scrabble, Singing for Pleasure, Topical Science, Walkabout.
Most groups meet once a month (some more often), usually in the Town Centre or in Group Leaders’ homes. No experience is required and the emphasis is on learning for fun.
