Working together with employers

“We are an inclusive Catholic University seeking to develop the whole person and we empower our community to have a positive impact on the world.”

St Mary’s Careers Service actively seeks to build links with local and national employers to assist in the employability of our students and to provide employers with access to high-quality potential employees.

Employers can get advice and practical help from our team of knowledgeable and experienced Careers Consultants Professional Service Staff. We can advise on the best ways to reach St Mary’s students and graduates and set up opportunities for you to promote your organisation or fill your vacancies.

For more details on how to work with St Mary’s Careers Service and how best to promote your organisation and opportunities to St Mary’s students and graduates, please contact Inis Fitzpatrick our Employer Engagement. (Details can be found at the bottom of this page).

Advertising to St Mary’s students and graduates

Job opportunities, including: full-time, part-time, internships, graduate schemes, fixed term contracts, voluntary, etc. can be advertised to St Mary’s students and graduates via our jobs platform, JobOnline. We actively promote Job Online to our students and graduates to help them find employment and volunteering opportunities. As part of The Careers Group, JobOnline can reach students and graduates not only at St Mary’s but also across the other colleges of the University of London.

Adverts on Job Online are free if under 25 words, otherwise a charge is applicable. We endeavour to post the information regarding your opportunity to Job Online within 48 hours from when you send us the details.

Campus presentations and workshops

We offer a variety of events to suit many types of employers from on campus presentations to workshops. If you would like to raise your profile on campus, please get in contact Inis Fitzpatrick(Employer Engagement Officer) and we can discuss your individual requirements.

On-campus recruitment sessions

Organisations have the opportunity to come on campus and have a stand outside our refectory during term time, allowing you to promote your opportunities and vacancies, along with raising your company’s profile. This type of employer engagement is free for charitable organisations and a small fee is charged to SME’s and larger organisations.

Careers fairs

Each year we run a Teaching Fair on behalf of the School of Education, Theology and Leadership. The Teaching Fair is open to Local Authorities, Schools, Diocese’s, Academy Chains and Teaching Unions.

We also run an annual Careers Show. This is a university wide event with students attending from our four academic schools. The Show allows employers to raise their profile with St Mary’s students, recruit for immediate positions and get to know the St Mary’s community. Employers are keen to work with our students and graduates as 95% of our students are in work or further study six months after graduation. Our students are keen to use their degree to make a difference once they graduate.

Each year St Mary’s runs a selection of forums. These offer an excellent opportunity for SME’s and larger companies to target students in particular subject areas. The forums usually take the form of a short presentation by each employer, followed by a question and answer session and networking.

Work placements

If you would like to advertise a work placement within your organisation, then please email the details to Inis Fitzpatrick(Employer Engagement Officer) who can advertise this to students via Job Online, social media and direct email to students.

However, if you would like to discuss how you could work with St Mary’s to offer a work placement as part of an accredited module, please contact the Centre for Work Place Learning.

Each year we publish Careers Handbooks for the individuals Schools; ‘Arts and Humanities’, ‘Education, Theology and Leadership’, ‘Management and Social Science’ and ‘Sport, Health and Applied Science’. These publications are circulated to students. There are opportunities to sponsor the handbooks, by having a full/half page advert / your logo on the front cover, and so on. There are also opportunities to sponsor our career events, fairs and promotional materials. If interested please contact Inis Fitzpatrick (Employer Engagement Officer).
