ID cards are produced by the Media Services Department (4th Floor, Hunter Wing). The hours for obtaining an ID card are; 9.00 – 10.00 am Monday to Friday or by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 2.00 – 3.00pm. Appointments can be made by calling 020 8725 2600.

Security access for ID cards is controlled by the main University Reception desk (Ground Floor, Hunter Wing). You will need to visit them to have your card activated.

You are required to return your ID card to the Human Resources Department at the conclusion of your appointment with SGUL.



Provided you have been appointed on a salary scale, it is SGUL’s policy that you will receive an incremental point on 1 October of each year until you have reached the maximum point on your salary scale.  In order to be eligible to receive an increment during your first year of service, you will need to have commenced employment with SGUL by 1 April.  If you have joined SGUL after 1 April, you will not be eligible for an increment until 1 October of the following year.  It is SGUL’s policy, however, that Clinical Academic staff retain their NHS incremental date.



The induction process is made up of a number of elements to ensure that new members of staff settle quickly into SGULand into their new role.
New staff will be seen by the Human Resources Department to confirm terms and conditions and arrangements for salary payment.  The Division will introduce new staff to other members of the Division and will provide information and advice on working practices, health and safety arrangements, etc.

All new members of staff will be invited to attend a half-day induction seminar.  This is run once every three months and new staff will be invited to the one closest to their start date.  The seminar introduces the history and culture of SGUL, the various divisions and their activities and also provides an opportunity for new staff to ask any questions.  Further details can be found on the Staff Development Portal pages here.
