Queen University Belfast Foundation Year
Foundation Degrees integrate academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and programme providers. They normally link to at least one programme leading to an honours degree. Foundation Degrees are delivered by Regional Colleges in Northern Ireland. The University has validated a number of Foundation Degrees which lead to a Queen’s award and permit students to enrol on year 2 of a specific related course at Queen’s leading to an honours degree over a further period of study. An example is the Foundation Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Belfast Metropolitan College which articulates into year 2 of the BEng Mechanical Engineering. The Quality Assurance Agency has provided a Foundation Degree Benchmark Statement.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) setting out the regulatory framework and respective responsibilities for the management and operation of a Foundation Degree(s) is required prior to the commencement of any new arrangement in which the University is involved. The authorised signatory is the Vice-Chancellor or an approved nominee.
Please note that the University’s Quality Assurance Framework for Collaborative Provision, as reflected in these published procedures, will be subject to amendment during Semester 1, 2016-17.
