About

The University of Plymouth Karate club is the longest running martial art, spanning over 25 years. The club welcomes all levels from a total beginner to Dan grades (black belts). We train every Tuesday (8pm-10pm) and Thursday (8pm-10pm) which is run by two external instructors including Richard House (SanDan 3rd Dan) and Gary Swift (8th Dan).We also train on Sunday (1pm-3pm), this is a free session covering applied aspects of karate and other martial arts in general. The external instuctors teach a Wado style of Karate, and are registered with the International Wado Federation (IWF). All styles of karate are welcome to join as we have members who have trained in Shotokan, Shikukai and Goju Ryu. The first two sessions are completely free so come along, try it out and enjoy yourself!

Socials

The socials we arrange have great emphasis on bringing the club together outside of the dojo. Events include the typical drinking nights (with a few twists!) and other non drinking socials.. This includes movie nights, special events, and club meals! The socials are run by the club and are going to be run fortnightly.

Events

We host gradings multiple times per year for all levels, and transferring your grade from an old club/style is a possibility with proof of grade. We compete in BUCS every year and are looking at involving ourselves in other tournaments depending on interest.
