Oxford Brookes University Early Years Foundation Degree
Early Years (FdA)
Foundation Degree Fd(A)
The Early Years foundation degree is designed for practitioners who work with young children in a range of pre-school and nursery settings, and have experience of this sector. The course is delivered at the following Oxford Brookes partner colleges:
Why this course?
- develop your knowledge and practice
- enhance your career prospects
- gain access to further learning
- study while you work.
Employers have been directly involved in the design of the course, which will build upon the practical work you are already undertaking in the workplace to provide clear links between practice and theory.

We offer a route into higher education for practising early years workers. Over a two-year period a substantial amount of your learning will take place in your workplace through the planned and supported tasks and projects we will set you. You will undertake study in areas such as child development, communication, language and literacy, inclusion, health, and management issues in early years.
You will take a series of modules during regular classes at college. In this way, you gain access to the theory and debate while remaining rooted in your everyday work with young children.
As our courses are reviewed regularly as part of our quality assurance framework, the modules you can choose from may vary from those shown here.

In the past we have visited The Gambia developing long standing relationships with schools and colleges and we are actively exploring international opportunities in other parts of the world, aiming to be responsive to students’ needs and interests. Students on the foundation degree are very welcome to apply for places on these trips.
Please note: the cost of an optional field trip is not included in your course fee, and a separate fee will apply. The approximate cost for the Gambia trip in 2017 is £1000.
