The Open University Webmail
The Open University Webmail, As an OU student, it’s vital we have your correct email address as we often contact you in this way and our emails will often require you to take some action. You can check and update the email details we have for you on the Profile page of StudentHome. You can also view emails we’ve sent you on StudentHome.
You will need to
- Use an appropriately worded email address.
- Make sure that the email address you use for your OU studies is one that you look at regularly.
- Check to see whether your computer’s spam filter is treating some of our emails as ‘spam’ (or junk mail).
When you decide which email address to give us, choose one that is suitable for an educational environment. Your email address should ideally present you in a way that might inspire confidence in potential employers and your peers and that enhances your professional credibility. Avoid email addresses that are silly (e.g. email@example.com) or that contain potentially offensive words. As well as you being mindful of your digital reputation, others also need to be able to identify who you are. So OU staff, such as your tutor and administrative staff, and your fellow students need to know who they are receiving emails from.

While it is quick and easy to send an email, do not expect an immediate reply. Although some people have constant access to their email, many others log in occasionally, or may want to take time to consider their reply.
Email is often a convenient way to contact your tutor, which you can do through the link on StudentHome. Do remember that most OU tutors work for the OU part time and it may be a few days before you get a response.
