Northumbria University Library
A library for Learning
Our professional staff, scholarly collections, and learning spaces, form a vital part of the student learning experience at Northumbria.
Ranked joint first in the UK for student experience (Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2015/16) and awarded the UK Government Customer Service Excellence (CSE) accreditation since 2010, the University Library ensures students receive the right support they need from enrolment to graduation.
At the heart of each Northumbria campus, our libraries provide a range of study space and technology to suit every learning style. City Campus Library is open and staffed 24/7 in term time, and Coach Lane Library and Law Practice Library offer generous opening hours.
Our extensive library collection encompasses both print and online resources, including over half a million print books and eight hundred thousand electronic books available online so our students can access them whenever or wherever they need. Sixty five thousand electronic journals and over three hundred databases provide further crucial resource for independent learning and project work.
Northumbria’s library team ensure students have opportunities throughout their course to develop information and digital literacy through our popular Northumbria Skills Programme and our online multimedia ‘SkillsPlus’.

Our Newcastle City Centre Campus has undergone a stunning transformation thanks to a £200 million investment.
The newest section of the Campus, connected by tree-lined walkways, has won over 20 awards for design and sustainability. As well as modern teaching, learning and research facilities you can access the library and IT resources 24/7. There is a wide choice of student accommodation, and our flagship Sport Central facility caters for everyone from performance athletes to students who just want to try a fitness class. Northumbria has won the national WhatUni Student Choice Award 2014 for the best city life of any university in the UK.
Our nearby Coach Lane Campus is home to education, nursing, healthcare and social work students. It hosts our Clinical Skills Centre, cafes and sports facilities, and is linked to the City Centre Campus by a free shuttle bus. The Students’ Union has its own presence at Coach Lane as well as at the City Centre Campus.
Our London Campus allows students to combine the excellence of Northumbria University with a location in the capital’s business and finance district.
Every Northumbria student, across all three Campuses, can access our award-winning employment services, comprehensive student support and 24/7 digital library with over 400,000 e-books.
The quality of campus life is one of the reasons why Northumbria University has been rated 21st out of 111 UK Universities by the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2014.
