Restorative dentistry

Restorative dentistry forms the backbone of contemporary primary care dentistry. The field of restorative dentistry is constantly evolving as new techniques and materials are developed and the requirement for dentists to keep up-to-date becomes progressively more challenging and potentially rewarding. Restorative dentistry covers a wide range of specialties encompassing Prosthodontics, Aesthetics, Endodontics and Periodontics. The ability to predictably and accurately restore a patient’s dentition using an evidence-based approach in restorative dentistry can provide practitioners with a real sense of fulfilment and satisfaction.

The Masters’ in Restorative Dental Practice Programme is a part time flexible learning experience that allows general dental practitioners (GDPs) to attend a purpose built facility at the Eastman Dental Institute for postgraduate dental education. In a relaxed atmosphere of small peer group learning, individuals can develop knowledge, skills and confidence in managing most of the everyday clinical challenges in restorative dentistry.

The programme has been running for over 20 years and has evolved into a well-respected, part time, flexible learning Masters’ degree. Completing year 1 of the programme will lead you to a Postgraduate Certificate, completing years 2 & 3 will lead to the Postgraduate Diploma, and completion of year 4 will lead to a full Masters’ degree in Restorative Dental Practice from the Eastman.

We aim to provide an evidence-based approach to education during seminars, skills laboratory hands-on sessions, clinical teaching and reflective peer group discussions.

Graduates of the programme have reported a real sense of satisfaction and enjoyment from their clinical work as well as a substantial increase in their confidence and an ability to manage challenging restorative dentistry cases that they would have been unable to attempt prior to the programme.

The Restorative Dental Practice Programme welcomes visits and enquiries from prospective students. Enquiries and appointments to visit should be made by emailing the department.
