What’s open during the vacation?

Are you staying on campus during Easter? Find out where to shop, eat, study and more.

Lent term ends on Friday 24th March, and summer term begins on Friday 21st April. The University will close at 5.30pm on Wednesday 12th April and reopen at 9am on Thursday 20th April.

Cafe 21 will open from 8.30am-2.30pm on weekdays except for 13th-19th April when it will be closed.

County Diner will be closed during the vacation period.

Costa (Alex Square)  will open from 8am-6pm on weekdays and 10am-5pm on weekends except for 14th-17th April when it will be closed.

The Deli will open from 8.30am-4.30pm on weekdays. It will close on weekends and for the period 13th-19th April.

Go Burrito will close from 14-17 April.

Greggs will close from 14-17 April.

Grizedale Cafe Bar will be closed during the vacation period.

The Herdwick will open from 8-11pm except for 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th April when it will open from 7-11pm and 14th-17th April when it will be closed.

The Hub will open from 8.30am-4.30pm on weekdays except for 13th-19th April when it will be closed.

JuiCafe will open from 8.30am-5pm on weekdays except for 13-19 April. It will be closed on weekends.

Ketchup will open from 10am-12am throughout the Easter vacation period.

The Lounge will open from 9am-3pm on weekdays except for 13th-19th April when it will be closed.

The Mill will open from 12-9pm on weekdays and 12-7pm on weekends except for 13th-19th April when it will be closed.

The Northern Oak will be closed during the vacation period.

Pendle Rooms will be closed during the vacation period.

The Red Lion will be closed during the vacation period.

Subway will be open every day throughout the vacation period. It will open from 7am-10pm except for the following days: 2, 9 and 23 April (8am-10pm), 15-16 April (10am-9pm), 17 April (9am-10pm), 19 April (7am-3am), 20 April (7am-2am), 21-22 April (7am-4am) and 23 April (8am-10pm).

Trevor will be closed during the vacation period.

The Trough will be closed during the vacation period.

Wibbly Wobbly will open from 12-2.30pm on weekdays except for 13-19 April when it will be closed. It will also close on weekends.

Anne Helm’s Garage will close from 7-10 April.

Blackwells Book Shop will close from 13-19 April.

Hair Salon will open from 10am-5pm on weekdays and close on weekends.

LUSU Central will open from 9am-10pm from 27th March to 24th April with the exception of Sunday 16th April when it will be closed.

Pharmacy will close from 14-17 April.

St John’s Hospice Shop will close from 14-17 April.

Walling Ice Shop will close from 14-17 April.

WHSmith will open from 8am-3pm on 30-31 March and then from 8am-5pm on weekdays except for 14 April when it will be closed. It will not open on weekends.

Santander will close from 14-17 April.

Barclays Bank will close from 14-17 April.

The Sports Centre will operate its normal opening hours throughout the Easter vacation with the exception of Easter Monday (17th April) when it will be closed all day.

The University Medical Centre

The Medical Centre is closed Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday (14th-17th April). See below for details of what to do if you need assistance while the surgery is closed.

Non-emergency advice

111 is the NHS non-emergency number. It’s fast, easy and free. Call 111 and speak to a highly trained adviser, supported by healthcare professionals. They will ask you a series of questions to assess your symptoms and immediately direct you to the best medical care for you. NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.

In case of an emergency

If you are on campus and using a mobile phone, call 999, then immediately contact Security Reception on 01524 594541. You may also dial 999 from any internal telephone line. This will connect you to the security reception, which is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They will call emergency services on your behalf and direct the responder to the correct location.

The Dental Practice and the Pharmacy will operate normal opening hours except for 14th and 17th April when it will be closed.

Mail

Students wishing to collect their mail during the vacation period should request that it is addressed to the Security Lodge with their name. Mail delivered to colleges will be stored ready for collection from 20th April.

Portering and Security

Security will continue to operate over Easter. Grad College will remain covered while mimumum staffing will operate elsewhere from 12th to 20th April.

The ISS Service Desk will close at 5pm on Wednesday 12th April and will re-open at 9am on Thursday 20th April.

Computers will be available in PC/Learning Labs over the vacation, accessible via your University Card.

Design, Print and Photography (DPP) will continue to operate normal opening hours until 5.30pm on Wednesday 12th April when it will close until 9am on Thursday 20th April.

Brady’s Book Binders will close from 13-19 April.

Stagecoach bus services

Stagecoach will operate University bus services throughout the Easter vacation period. Service frequencies reduce during vacation periods as the term-time only services will not be operating. On the bank holidays (Friday 14th April and Monday 17th April) Stagecoach will operate to Sunday timetables. Throughout the vacation period, real-time live bus departure details will be available in the Transport Hub on the iLancaster app and on the bus departure screens in the Underpass and Alexandra Square.

Coach services

MegaBus and National Express coach services will continue to serve the University Underpass through the vacation to their usual timetables. All bookings need to be made in advance online. Please check on the Megabus and National Express websites for any service changes.

Taxis

Taxi ranks are available in Bowland Avenue by the Chaplaincy Centre, outside the Management School and on Alexandra Park by the bus stop for Lonsdale College. These will remain open throughout the Easter Vacation. Please note that taxi fares may increase for the bank holidays on 14th April and 17th April.

Trains

You can check train times and book train tickets via Trainline or at Uni Travel in Alexandra Square. If you are traveling by train you can check the Lancaster station live departures board to see when your train is expected in Lancaster. This is also available in the Transport Hub on iLancaster.

Cycling

The free Dr. Bike service on Thursdays will not be available as the weekly Thursday market in Alexandra Square does not take place during vacation times. This will resume again on Thursday 27th April.

Car parking on campus

Please note that car parking charges on campus apply the same during vacation periods as they do during term-times.

Uni Travel

Uni Travel will remain open from 9am-5pm on weekdays except for 13-19 April.

The Lancaster Students’ Union Welcome Desk will open from 10-4pm on Monday to Friday during the vacation period except 13th-19th April inclusive when it will close.

Meet others who will be on campus over Easter

Here for the vacation period? Come along to Fylde Common Room between 12 and 1pm on Wednesday 22nd March to meet others who will be on campus over Easter.

You can also stay in touch with other students on campus using the vacation Facebook page. Please use it to contact others, include them in your social gatherings and make suggestions for things to do over Christmas.

Trips

25th March: Bakewell and Chatsworth House

Advice and welfare services will operate as normal during the vacation period, apart from during the University closure period (13-19 April) when the central administration is closed.

Visas and passport

If you lose your passport or visa during this period, please follow the advice contained here.

There will be a normal cleaning service during the vacation apart from closure days.

On closure days (13-19th April inclusive) local arrangements will be made subject to what is in use and there will be no cleaning service to residences.

Accommodation Services staff will be working through the vacation, except for the closure period, but you may find that your own Accommodation Manager is away for part of the break. Check locally for details of who is covering in their absence. Security staff are also on hand if you need any help with accommodation issues. Again, if your own Porters’ Lodge is not staffed there will be contact details displayed relating to the covering College.
