The Great Hall

Generations of students graduating from Lancaster will know the Great Hall best for its hosting of the summer exams and the graduation ceremonies. The building remains largely unchanged to this day. The design of the Hall was a compromise because it had to fill a variety of functions ranging from the staging of concerts, dances to exams and degree ceremonies.

During the early days of the university, there used to be student meetings in the building. The hall also played host to a number of popular bands until the student population got too big and concerts became a fire hazard. Bands such as Pink Floyd, Bob Geldof and Eric Clapton played in the Hall before the construction of the Sugar House.

Great Hall

Lancaster University’s Great Hall is the most prestigious venue on the campus and is regularly used for Graduation ceremonies and other high profile events.

Situated towards the north of the campus, the Great Hall has held many historic events over the years for Lancaster University. Accommodating up to 800 delegates, the versatile hall can be utilised as meeting, exhibition or dining space.

Within the large flat floored room there is an in-built stage and 3 data projectors that can be used for conferences. Our in house AV team would be more than happy to quote for any specific lighting, stage or sound requirements if required.

Located within close proximity to the LICA and Faraday buildings, the Great Hall offers a complimentary venue for large scale events.

As the Great Hall is used for teaching it is available during the University vacation periods (usually March/April, July, August and September).
