Outgoing students

BA Students are given the opportunity to Study Abroad during their second year [full year study abroad programmes only] and with a wide range of choice (USA, China and Australia), the world is your oyster! There are varied and numerous opportunities to spend time abroad in order to enrich your studies, increase your employability and broaden your horizons.

King’s Study Abroad programme provides you with the opportunity to apply to study abroad at some of the world’s premier institutions for a year, or a semester, as a fully integrated part of your degree. In addition, King’s students are also eligible to participate in summer programmes around the world and to complete international internships.

Applications will largely be assessed on the strength of the personal statement along with your academic performance to date (where possible). Whilst we do not require a formal reference, we will also consult with your department who will advise on your suitability for the programme. For this reason, you should ensure you have made contact with your Study Abroad Tutor to discuss your plans before applying. Please see here for more information

Incoming students

The most important point for Study Abroad (SA) students to grasp is the dichotomy between the Department they are visiting and the SA Office that organises the procedural details. The SA Office is responsible for allocating modules to the students, registering them and addresses the problems occurring because of clashes.

The Department is responsible for the academic side of the visit; all matters related to teaching and the students’s progress will be within the Department’s remit.

In the event that a student wishes to apply for an extension for the coursework, this would have to go through the Department and not individual lecturers; similarly, students are required to inform the Department or the SA Office of any problems that might affect their studies. Please note that  a Study Abroad Tutor is assigned to the students to offer support during their time within the Department. Current students please visit the Study Abroad web pages.
