It is possible to set the XBOX to acquire network settings automatically. However, this can be unreliable. If you need to configure your XBOX this way, always wait until you are logged onto HallsNet before powering on your XBOX.
Some computers hibernate if not used for a period of time. In most cases, using your XBOX keeps the computer from doing this. If you find that your computer hibernates while you are using your XBOX you will lose your connection. To stop this happening, go to ‘Power Options’ in your Windows Control Panel and set the computer to hibernate ‘Never’.
MTU settings. Windows has a default setting of 1500 for this parameter. Some applications change this value on your computer. XBOX must have a setting of 1364 or greater. If your XBOX network test fails due to an incorrect MTU setting, you should change the value on both the network adaptors. If you do not know how to do this, (it’s fairly technical) the Service Desk will assist.
