I am a consultant with London law firm Farrer & Co, having previously been a partner with Denton Wilde Sapte (later Dentons) and with Eversheds.
I have over 30 years experience in private practice in virtually all aspects of contentious and transactional intellectual property. I have similar experience in contentious and transactional IT work and in advising on aspects of information law – data protection and freedom of information.
I have developed a subsidiary expertise in public law related primarily to universities, research establishments and medical colleges and have dealt with numerous judicial reviews, complex research misconduct cases (including plagiarism and research fraud) and student disputes in this field.
I am Visiting professor in IP at Queen Mary, University of London where I teach a postgraduate module focusing on transactional and business related IP. I co-teach a similar module at King’s College London on commercialisation of IP. I also co-taught the postgraduate Privacy and Information Law module at King’s between 2013 – 2016.
I am Senior International Fellow at Monash University in Melbourne Australia, where I teach a bi-annual course on Technology Transfer.
My main fields of academic interest relate to trade and commercial secrets, data privacy and the commercialisation of IP. I am the author of a leading text on the law of trade secrets and of over 70 articles in academic and professional journals.
