About IET

Welcome from the Director

Welcome to the Institute of Educational Technology at The Open University.

IET sits at the heart of the University’s pedagogy and research strategy, supporting The Open University as a visionary leader of educational technology. We do this by exploring and understanding what is possible, trying out new ideas, reflecting on what happens and why, then we apply this learning to enhance our teaching and help our students.
We champion open approaches to research, join with world class researchers and link research and practice.
Our work is collaborative, with colleagues within the University and around the world. IET staff members help drive knowledge sharing and provide innovative leadership of educational technology for the University.
So whether you seek information about studying with us, wish to collaborate with us, are looking for research opportunities or just browsing, we hope you find our website helpful.

Professor Patrick McAndrew
Director of IET
