A wide range of quality modules orientated to the continuing professional development of teachers, education leaders and other education professionalsOur highly regarded MA Education programme is offered on a full or part-time basis. It is designed to be flexible in order to meet the needs of busy professionals. Taught modules can be taken singly or as part of an award bearing course.
It may be possible to give credits for Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL). 60 credits may be given to PGCE students of the University of Reading towards their Masters Degree.
This programme is truly modular; meaning all students registered are able to tailor their programme of study to their own interests, depending on the modules we are able to offer. We offer a large number modules each year, and we have information about each in the programme prospectus to help you make your selection. Please note that modules will only run if sufficient numbers are recruited.
The modules are:
- suitable for both full-time and part-time modes of study
- available to be taken as stand alone modules or to accumulate to a masters or postgraduate diploma qualification
- intended both to strengthen professional practice and to deepen understanding of educational issues.
All students will initially register for the generic Masters in Education and they must complete the core module EDM007: Investigating Education, before proceeding to the dissertation. (The core module is offered in the spring term for full time students and the summer term for part time students).
Students may undertake the generic MA in Education, creating a tailor-made course from all the available modules to meet their own interests and needs. Alternatively students may elect to undertake a pathway that gives them a specialism in the title of their Masters. They do this by taking modules to the value of at least 40 credits relating to the specialism and undertaking a dissertation on an appropriate topic. It should be noted that pathways may change depending on the number of applications. Any decision to undertake a pathway must be indicated following acceptance of an offer of a place on the course.
|Main specialist pathways||Pathways that will be offered only if there are sufficient applications for each of them.|
|Early Years (Ear)|
|English Language Teaching (ELT)|
|Inclusive Education (I)|
|Leadership and Management (LM)||Primary Education (P)|
|Music Education (Mu)|
Successful completion of at least 100 credits relating to a specific pathway (40 module credits plus 60 credit dissertation) may lead to the award of a Masters in Education with the specialism named in the title e.g. Master of Arts in Education (Inclusive Education).
The optional modules will vary from year to year, therefore the availability of specialist pathways may not be guaranteed; students may not receive full information until the start of the programme as the modules are offered depending on the numbers recruited to each one.
A discount of 10% on the fees payable may be available to alumni of the university but not to PGCE alumni who wish to transfer Accreditation of Prior Learning.
