GCSE Maths Other (Short Course / Specialist Interest) / Part Time

The course follows the National Curriculum syllabus for Mathematics. The first 4/5 weeks are in preparation for the Adult Numeracy Level 1 Examination(in October), the following 10 weeks lead up to the Adult Numeracy Examination level 2 taken in December. Progression is then towards the GCSE Higher tier examinations. Please note:- Coursework is no longer an element within GCSE Mathematics.

Entry Requirements

A previous GCSE Maths grade D or Adult Numeracy/Functional Skills Level 1 or preferably Level 2 are advantageous. All students will take an initial assessment at the start of the course. This entails reviewing basic mathematical skills and gives the opportunity for students to decide on an appropriate mathematics course, depending on their needs and previous background in mathematics. Students will then be offered either a 1 Year, 15 month or 2 Year GCSE Mathematics programme. The 15 month and 2 year courses are intended for students who are likely to find the 1 Year GCSE Mathematics too difficult. Successful students would be able to progress to GCSE Mathematics in the following January or September.
