Information Technology Level 1 / Full Time

The Level 1 Information Technology Study Programme gives you a basic and comprehensive skill level that will support progression into the more technical aspects of computing.

You’ll develop your understanding of the digital sector and learn about the skills that you need to start your career.

You’ll be introduced to coding and developing basic games to support your understanding. You’ll learn about creative digital and boost your software productivity skills.

You’ll have work experience in the digital industry and improve your employability skills as well as your maths and English.

This Programme gives you the skills to progress onto the Level 2 Information Technology Study Programme, preparing you to become a software developer, digital entrepreneur or IT technician.

IT User Skills (ECDL Extra) Level 2 / Part Time

The BCS Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills provides you with the skills required to use standard computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software. Candidates will be expected to sit one module test every three weeks commencing from week three.

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have basic computing experience. Candidates must have access to a PC to practice between sessions

Modules & Units

The BCS Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills qualification is split into four modules:

  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Presentation
  • Improving Productivity Using IT (mandatory unit)

To gain the full Level 2 qualification candidates must complete all of the first 3 modules and the mandatory unit.

Information Technology Level 2 / Full Time

This Level 2 programme prepares you for digital employment across a range of disciplines such as web development or as an IT technician, this course also covers a broad range of computing topics to provide technical upskilling and sector knowledge, with a mixture of practical and technical skills development to prepare you for progression to higher level study within a computing discipline.

During the duration of this course students will complete work experience directly linked to the digital industry.

This qualification prepares you to progress on to the Level 3 Next Gen Computing programme or the Level 3 Information Technology.

Alternatively, your studies will support you into employment as an IT technician, software developer or digital entrepreneur.

Level 2 IT TechnicianLevel 2 / Full Time

Designed for those who have an interest in computing, Level 2 IT Technician focuses on the technical aspects of software and hardware. This vocational programme provides you with the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in a professional environment to help you gain experience in providing technical support.

You’ll be working with ICT hardware and equipment to perform software installations and upgrades as well as test systems and diagnose technical faults to manage software and services.

Additional Information

This course leads onto Level 3 IT Technician. You can become an IT support technician, run desktop support, or become a network support technician.

Entry Requirements

Students require a minimum of four GCSE at grade ‘D’ including maths and English.

Please note that from June 2017, English and maths GCSEs will no longer be graded in the familiar A*-G format, but a new 9-1 grading system, with 9 being the highest grade. Under this new system the grade 4 will be equivalent to a grade C. Please contact us for more details.

IT TechniciansLevel 3 (A Level Equivalent) / Full Time

The NVQ Level 3 IT Technicians Programme is for those learners who have an interest in computing with a focus on the technical aspects of software and hardware and an interest in providing technical support.

It is a vocational programme that provides you with the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in a real professional environment.

You’ll attend a work placement throughout the course and will also work providing technical support to the public through the College’s on-site technical support shop, PC Planet. You’ll be working with ICT hardware, equipment, software installation and upgrades.

You’ll test systems and diagnose technical faults as well as managing software and services. This course leads into a Higher Apprenticeship in IT or into degree level studies.

You can become an IT support technician, run desktop support, or become a network support technician.

NextGen ComputingLevel 3 (A Level Equivalent) / Full Time

The digital industry is vast with roles to suit everyone. The Level 3 NextGen Computing Study Programme provides you with a route into the sector with a broad range of technical skills around software and digital product development, including procedural, eventdriven, programming, creative digital, or into degree level studies, web development, database systems design and systems analysis.

You’ll build games to improve your coding skills across platforms and do valuable work experience in the digital industry, as well as improving wider Employability Skills.

Giving you UCAS points equivalent to three A-levels, you can go on to further studies in a digital degree or higher Apprenticeship, going into work as a software developer, web developer, systems analysis, network administrator, or IT support technician.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grades 4/C and above, including maths & English, with Maths at a 6/B or above.

A high level of communication skills
