Urban Planning and Property Development, BSc (Hons)

The course

UCAS code
Up to 4 years
Delivery type

Urban Planning and Property Development combines real estate management, urban and regional planning and design. The programme aims to produce graduates who can work equally in the private, public and voluntary sectors of the planning industry, and in the land and property development and management industry. Successful completion of the degree and subsequent approved practical experience will enable students to apply for the Assessments of Professional Competence of RTPI and RICS, culminating in professional membership of one or both Institutes. In the UK there is a shortage of qualified professionals, which is set to continue for the foreseeable future, so our graduates are in high demand.

Heriot-Watt is rated top in Scotland for Planning in the National Student Survey 2014 and ranked 2nd in the UK and top in Scotland for Building and Town & Country Planning in the Guardian League Table 2017.

Sandwich year

A sandwich year option is available, giving students the opportunity to spend one year in a paid placement before completing the final year of study.
