Heriot Watt University Civil Engineering

Our Civil Engineering undergraduate course covers the main disciplines of structures, geotechnics, plus both water and transportation engineering. The degree is designed to give you the knowledge and skills you need to become a Chartered Civil Engineer. The core curriculum concentrates on analysis and materials behaviour, covering the main disciplines. The later years of the course specialise more on design and management. Throughout, there’s an emphasis on your personal development within a professional environment.

All Civil Engineering undergraduate courses are supported by the Civil Engineering Industry Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from major multi-national employers.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in the week-long Constructionarium programme, where they get hands-on construction experience of the civil engineering industry.

Year 4

Students select half of their courses from a list of eight options, including: Structural Element Design; Water and Wastewater Treatment; Foundation Engineering; and Urban Drainage and Water Supply. Students also undertake a design project that involves collaborative work with students from other disciplines within the built environment professions.
