Sport at Harper Adams

Working hard and playing hard is a big part of the Harper Adams experience and sport is at the centre of that. Harper Adams has a wide variety of different sports clubs, from rugby and football to equine and mountain biking.

Our clay pigeon shooting, rugby union and hockey teams in particular pride themselves on bringing home the medals and have an enviable reputation in the BUCS leagues and championships.

If you have your own favourite sport, and can entice others to join you, why not ask the SU to help you set up a team or society?

Gym Membership

The gym is open daily from 7am to 9pm and features modern CV equipment including treadmills, cross trainers, rowers and stepper machines along with an extensive free weights and resistance training area.

In order to become a member of the gym you must complete an induction which involves demonstrations and instruction on all machines. Depending on your individual goals, whether you are trying to lose weight or improve your fitness, our trained staff can help you with a personal plan to achieve your ambitions.

Sport and Leisure Facilities

Multi-Gym

The newly renovated gym is open seven days a week from 7am to 9pm with a range of cardio equipment including rowing machines, treadmills, crosstrainers, exercise bikes and Stairmasters. We have an extended freeweights section with dumbells from 1kg – 50kg and olympic barbells and bumper plates.

All students are welcome to become members, each completing an induction with one of our Gym Assistants to ensure they’re safe and comfortable using all the facilities. The Harper Fitness staff are always happy to give advice on training and how to build your own training program to achieve your goals. With daily advice, hints and tips on Facebook it’s a must for any student who wants to keep in shape.

Squash Courts

We have two squash courts on campus which are very popular with staff and students alike; light cards are available from Finance in the Main Building or in the Multi-Gym. The courts feature an elevated viewing area for those who want to watch or get a taste for the sport.

Swimming Pool

The heated outdoor swimming pool is free to access and located in the heart of the campus behind Faccenda. What better way to relax after a hard day than a dip in the pool in the summer sun?

Dance and Fitness Studio

The Dance and Fitness studio is host to a variety of different classes, including Yoga, Pilates, Boxercise and Taekwon-Do. There’s something for everyone, no experience necessary!

Sports Hall

Our large sports hall is used five days a week for a wide variety of sports, with University Netball teams training twice a week in a local league, BUCS matches as well as indoor football, basketball, circuit training, Fencing and more. Students can use the facility for free during the day for casual games of badminton, five-a-side and basketball.

Tennis Courts

Located outside Ward hall, the tennis courts are free to use and available on a first come first served basis.

MUGA Pitches

The University has two brand new Multi Use Games Areas (MUGAs) which are set up for Tennis, 5-a-side and Basketball. These are free for students to use and a token for floodlit evening use is available from our finance office.

All-weather Sports Pitch

The large all weather sports pitch can be used for football, hockey and netball with the ability to hold multiple sports at the same time. It can also be booked out by students for use outside of programmed events and is regularly in use at weekends and in the evenings for anything from a quick kick about to a full team training session.

Rugby/Football pitches

The rugby and football pitches are very active, with BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sports) matches taking place on Wednesday afternoons and training the rest of the week.

Cricket Pitch

The cricket pitch takes pride of place in front of the Main Building and is the first thing that visitors to Harper Adams see, the pitch is maintained by the Grounds team who also provide practise nets for teams and groups.
