Harper Adams welcomes new Director of Finance

HARPER Adams University College has welcomed a new Director of Finance to handle the establishment’s £17m budget.

Andrew Tyley, 44, took on the role earlier this month and says he is delighted to join a thriving finance team responsible for the budget which drives the many services and enterprises of the rapidly expanding university college.

“I am very pleased indeed to be joining Harper Adams University College and am keen to work within a higher education institution.

“The university college has a lot of potential as a national specialist higher education provider and is a major asset to Shropshire.

“I am settling in well because staff and students at Harper Adams are very friendly and they are supportive and keen to help me establish myself here.”

Mr Tyley, has also stated he intends to support all students during the introduction of top-up fees in September.

“It is a fundamental change and it will mean that we will need to be supportive to students to help them get to grips with the new system, while at the same time ensuring that we recover the fees expected from them.

It is part of the caring approach adopted by the university college that Harper Adams has recently appointed a specialist financial adviser to deal with all student enquiries.

Mr Tyley, who is married with two children, qualified as an accountant in 1987. For the past three years he has been working at a national level as Director of Finance for the Adult Learning Inspectorate, based in Coventry.

Before that he was Director of Finance for Walford and North Shropshire College, working at the Oswestry campus.

Andrew takes over as Director of Finance from Derek Corlett, who had held the post for the past 30 years. Derek, who is a highly regarded member of the Edgemond community, has offered his best wishes to Andrew for the next 30 years.
