Jazz & Rock Summer School

Very good, best week of my life.” Jazz Summer School participant 2014

The Guildhall Jazz and Rock Summer School has something for everyone, at every age and level of experience, in a wide range of styles embracing jazz, rock, latin, funk, gospel, blues, studio music and more. It’s a fun, happy, encouraging and vibrant place to try something new or expand your skills. Auditions are not required.

The Jazz Summer School includes:

Singers’ Weekend

A unique large group workshop for singers from all backgrounds, working on gospel, African, world and jazz music. Led over two days by Scott StromanJazz Faculty staff and guests, it culminates in a concert with a great band on Sunday night. No music reading necessary—all learned and performed by ear!

Jazz & Rock Week

Our popular Jazz and Rock Week is the perfect opportunity to meet like-minded musicians of all ages and abilities and to take your performance to the next level.

This long-running course for instrumentalists and singers begins on Sunday evening and finishes with a huge concert on Friday evening to which friends and family are invited.

The course includes jazz and rock bands and combos, big bands, vocal groups, classes in harmony, rhythm, and improvisation, instrumental and vocal classes, rock and Latin workshops and computer music. In the evenings there are tutor concerts and ’the Club‘ – our informal evening jam session where you’ll get the chance to meet and perform with like-minded musicians. It’s a busy and vibrant week.

Jazz & Rock week is open to all musicians and vocalists over the age of 11 with ABRSM Grade 3 or equivalent skill level.
