Edge Hill University Geography

Hello and welcome to the Department of Geography at Edge Hill University.

We hope that you will enjoy reading about our work, our staff and our students. We are a friendly and welcoming department, so you won’t get lost in the crowd, but our research has national and international significance, and our graduates are now working with some of the country’s leading environmental organisations.

We have recently moved into our new building which by September 2013, will have been converted to meet our needs and will provide a modern teaching and learning environment for all our students.

We want our students to enjoy their time at Edge Hill University and we aim to provide a supportive learning environment, with a strong community spirit. Our experienced, highly approachable and knowledgeable staff are committed to helping students achieve their full potential.

Fieldwork and laboratory work are some of the most beneficial and enjoyable aspects of our degree programmes. We offer a range of opportunities for fieldwork both in the UK and abroad, depending on the degree programme you are following.

All our degree programmes are of a high quality as evidenced in the results of recent National Student Surveys. A core element of all our degrees is the emphasis on preparing students for the world of work. Our programmes are recognised by employers for the wide range of ‘job-relevant’ skills and knowledge that they provide. Our Geo-careers module provides a bridge between academic study and career planning and management, and helps students work towards achieving their career aspirations.

We offer a range of degree programmes. Geography can be studied for a BA or BSc Single Honours degree, or as specialist pathways in either Human Geography or Physical Geography. Our science provision includes BSc Honours degrees in Physical Geography and Geology and Environmental Science.

Our degrees are equally attractive to students from either an arts/humanities or science background or a mixture of both. Whatever your choice, we are sure you will enjoy studying at Edge Hill University.
