Edge Hill University 2018
This visualisation of the campus shows potential developments over the next few years. The fully-developed campus will be one of the finest in the UK, providing a high-quality landscaped environment for study, research and student living, integrated with arts, sporting and recreational facilities.
New residences – three and four storey townhouses comprising 263 bedrooms. These will be available to second year, third year and postgraduate students, meaning more of these students can be housed on campus rather than renting privately outside of the University. The residences will be completed in two phases, with the first opening in time for 2017 occupancy and the second in 2018.
New Library and Student Services Centre
The four-storey Library and Student Services Centre is planned for completion in summer 2018,
The new building aims to provide the Edge Hill community with a popular 24/7 destination where welcoming, knowledgeable, professional staff are on hand to support student life, research, learning and career development.
The new building provides an opportunity for Learning Services, Careers and Students Services to work together, to build on existing good practice and experience of delivering excellent customer-focussed services, in order to provide an even better experience for our university community. Development aspects include:
- Spaces: A contemporary, inviting and well-resourced environment will provide a focal point on-campus where staff and students are able to meet, think, learn, create, and participate
- Technology: Modernised online and mobile systems will enhance self-service and cross-service facilities, to provide a more dynamic and seamless customer experience
- Service Offer: A smart re-visioning of customer focussed help and support will see multiple touch points, both face-to-face and virtual, providing choice and convenience for customers
- People: The co-location of the teams from three core service areas will encourage new conversations and opportunities for innovation while maintaining the goals of high quality service delivery and standards.
Edge Hill University is continuing to develop its state-of-the-art campus to fulfil its vision of a visually inspiring, sustainable environment.
The flagship £17million Creative Edge building opened in September 2013 and includes industry-standard facilities for students studying courses in Media, Film, Animation, Advertising and Computing.
The transformation will continue in 2015 with phase two of the new £30 million sports complex which will ensure students, staff and the local community enjoy some of the best sports facilities in the country. Plans include a new Sports Centre with a 25m swimming pool, 100-station fitness suite, sauna, steam room, aerobics studio, and a multi-court sports hall with viewing gallery. The University’s commitment to sustainability has been recognised with a string of green awards and as part of this vision all new buildings on campus incorporate low carbon technologies and energy efficient lighting, heating and glazing.
This year will also see the completion of new additions to Edge Hill’s on-campus accommodation. Construction has begun on phase 10 of the residential building programme which will see 144 new bedrooms constructed within the central campus, close to the main building and the existing Forest Court accommodation block.
“The end result will see a campus that truly matches, in both quality and scale, the very best in the United Kingdom.” Dr John Cater, Vice-Chancellor.
