The Graham Sports Centre, Maiden CastleThe University’s multi-million pound sports facilities are set in spacious grounds on the outskirts of Durham City and boast an impressive range of state-of-the-art facilities, including an indoor rowing tank, a world-class fencing piste, indoor cricket nets, and a performance analysis suite. There are also facilities for use by athletes with disabilities, and an extended sports hall and changing rooms.

Extensive facilities at Maiden Castle include:
5 football pitches, a high-performance weights room, 4 rugby pitches, 2 lacrosse pitches, 2 squash courts, 3 training pitches, 4 lane athletics track, 3-court sports hall, floodlit sand-based astroturf, floodlit water-based astroturf, floodlit rubber crumb surface, 2 netball courts, 3 playdeck tennis courts, 3 grass tennis courts, 2 cricket pitches, a well equipped fitness suite, over 20 ergos and spacious changing areas. Maiden Castle also boasts meeting rooms, a bar and restaurant facilities, the perfect place to relax after exercising.

The majority of University sport’s managerial, administrative and coaching staff are based at the centre.

The Racecourse

Situated on the scenic riverside, the Racecourse site is less than five minutes walk from the Graham Sports Centre. The outdoor facilities include a cricket pitch, 2 football pitches and a rugby pitch. There is also an indoor facility providing 2 squash courts, 2 fives courts and extensive changing facilities.

Queen’s Campus Sports CentreThis excellent centre, with its close proximity to one of the UK’s best white water courses and motivated ‘Team Durham’ staff, offers you a great range of sporting opportunities and facilities at Queen’s Campus.

With a fully-equipped fitness suite, an impressive range of state-of-the-art facilities and a variety of exercise classes, this multi-million pound Sports Centre provides a superb environment to workout and keep fit. The multi-use eight-court sports hall, designed specifically for court sports, provides a high-performance environment for volleyball, netball, badminton and basketball teams, as well as a space to just get involved and enjoy sport whatever your level!

Supported by a team of highly-qualified fitness professionals, the centre’s facilities also include  multi-purpose fitness suite/ dedicated ergometer room/ bookable floodlit Astroturf pitch/ spinning room/ multi-activity studio/ bookable meeting room.

Water Sports

Kayaking on the Tees Barrage… Located on the River Tees, Queen’s is a great place for all sorts of water sports, with a wonderful stretch of non-tidal river frontage. Our new boat house by the river provides facilities for students and staff, and whether you’re into sailing, kayaking, canoeing or rowing, waterskiing, jet-skiing or rafting, you have easy access to a range of excellent facilities. One of England’s best white water courses is just up the river at the Tees Barrage, where you can enjoy kayaking, canoeing and white water rafting. Coaching is available for first timers and all instructors are highly qualified and experienced. The Tees Barrage White Water Course is a world-class facility.
