College Allocation

After you accept your offer from the University, you will be allocated automatically to one of four Colleges that provide membership to part-time and/or distance-learning (PTDL) postgraduate students: Hatfield College, St Mary’s College, Van Mildert College, and St Aidan’s College*. The College you are allocated to will be determined by the programme you have chosen and you will be contacted by your College with further details of your membership after you have accepted your University offer.

*The exceptions to this are PTDL Theology postgraduates who are allocated to St John’s College and PTDL postgraduates based in Stockton who will be allocated to one of our two Colleges at Queen’s Campus.

If you were a member of a Durham University College during a previous degree and wish to remain a member of that College during your PTDL course, please contact the Colleges Office (colleges.postgrad@durham.ac.uk) after accepting your University offer for more information.

College Membership

We appreciate that because of the nature of part-time and distance-learning study, you will be facing different challenges to those students studying full-time. You might be trying to study whilst you work, manage family commitments, and/or juggle other interests. We appreciate also that getting to know and/or meet other students is not always as easy, particularly for those students whose mode of study may not bring them to Durham very often (or not at all, in the case of some distance-learning students).

Find out how your college can help with this and what your college offers part-time and distance-learning students.
