Get Office 365 for free!

Good news! As a student at Durham University, you are able to access a free copy of Microsoft Office 365 along with a number of other extra features through your University IT account as part of Microsoft’s ProPlus offer. This is a great chance to save yourself some money if you’re looking to purchase a new laptop or PC.

This particular offer is available to undergraduates, taught postgraduates and distance learners at Durham University. There is a similar offer available for research postgraduates and eligible members of staff and details are available on this HR web page.

By signing up, you get:

  • The latest version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access and Publisher installed on up to five PCs or Macs and up to five mobile devices like iPad, Android and Windows tablets.
  • 1TB of storage on OneDrive you can use to store and share all your documents across all your devices.
  • Office Online for in-browser editing, collaboration and co-authoring

To get hold of it, first you need to confirm that you’re eligible – visit Microsoft’s website and follow the link. (Note that you need to use your CIS username rather than your normal email address here – i.e. abcd12@durham.ac.uk)

For help in downloading, see our guides on the right of this page.

Note that this is an optional extra for your personal use and not a part of your University IT provision. As such CIS are unable to provide support for these extras – if you have any questions we’d recommend visiting Microsoft’s own help information.

Note that you are eligible for this free deal while you are studying here – when you graduate and your University email account is closed, you’ll no longer be able to take advantage of it – so make sure you do while you can!
