Studying at De Montfort University
The University of De Montfort has over 400 courses on offer, including many placement opportunities, with a large emphasis on encouraging employability in their students. The University has its own placement programme called ‘Frontrunners’ to encourage students to take a placement year within the university itself, which includes paid internships. Situated in the city of Leicester, De Montfort offers students a taste of city life.
De Montfort offers five faculties including a wide variety of subjects such as English, Politics, Accounting and Finance, Nursing and Midwifery, Computer Game Programming and much more. Many of the courses have been awarded 5* or ‘Excellent’ ratings for teaching.
The university has a number of accolades including being awarded the same score for its English Literature course as the University of Cambridge. It has also been named a Centre of Excellence for student support. The University has around 27,000 students making it one of the bigger universities in the UK.
More recently the University has been developed to include; a School of Nursing and Midwifery building, the department of which has been awarded many research grants; a Performance Arts centre; and a new Business and Law centre. A new sports facility with discounted student memberships available has also recently been opened, on which a total of £8 million was spent. This includes a gym, fitness classes, a 25 metre six lane swimming pool, sauna, climbing wall, sports hall and dance studio. The Universities library named ‘The Kimberlin Library’ is open 24 hours a day in term time and also has open access to certain facilities away from the library for students to access for studying from home.
