De Montfort University Ji Sung Park
De Montfort University Ji Sung Park;
Park Ji-Sung has started playing for a university football team in the midlands
Some people didn’t have to imagine, as Park Ji-Sung dusted off his old boots (actually, he probably has enough money for new boots) to take to the field for De Montfort University.
And it wasn’t just a one-off – the former Manchester United and QPR midfielder is a student at the university in Leicester, so they’re not bending any rules by picking him for the team. Park isn’t the only ex-footballer to have gone back to school after hanging up their boots.
Former England Under-21 midfielder Fabrice Muamba studied sports journalism at the University of Staffordshire after a heart condition forced him to quit professional football in his 20s, while former Scotland striker Chris Iwelumo and Wales international midfielder Jack Collison have studied the same course.
South Korea international Park might not be available to take to the field all too often, though. He is studying for an international masters degree in management, law, and humanities of sport, according to the BBC, and that feels like the sort of thing that would take up a lot of his time.
