De Montfort University International Year One
IIB: International First Year
The International First Year (IFY), delivered at LIPC provides an intensive combination of first year university subjects with extra study and language skills. The IFY is the first year of the three-year International Incorporated Bachelor’s (IIB) degree.
Upon successful completion of the IFY, you will be fast-tracked to the second year of study at DMU.
Students can choose to join the IFY course either in September or January.
IFY Pathways are available in:
- Business and Management
- Engineering and Computing
Every IFY has a number of core and compulsory modules:
Mathematics and IT: The ability to confidently use computers and handle numbers is vital to research and analysis.
Communication: Learn how to deliver presentations, write an academic essay, complete projects and work as a team – all skills which you will need as an undergraduate student.
English for Academic Purposes (EAP): As an international student, it is vital that you are able to communicate in English and understand your lectures.
Academic subjects: There are also a number of subject-specific modules that relate to your chosen pathway.
Continuing your degree
You will start the first year of your chosen International Incorporated Bachelor’s degree (Stage 2) at LIPC. Once you have successfully completed the IFY, you will continue directly into the second year (Stage 3) of that degree, studying directly with DMU. You will have individual subject tutors who will make sure that you are on track to achieve your study goals.
English language lessons
In addition to the core modules, there is also a continuous English language module to help undergraduate students improve their language skills.
