Cranfield University launches new bus to Bedford and Milton Keynes AND it has free wifi

A NEW bus service connecting Bedford and Milton Keynes via Cranfield University has also opened its doors to the public.

In developing its Travel Plan, which is encouraging people out of their cars, Cranfield University consulted with the local community to see how public transport provision could be improved and ensure local support for launching a bus service that not only served the need of the University staff and students but also those of the public.

The distinctive pink and purple liveried ‘Cranfield Connect’ buses offer University staff, students and the public an hourly service from Milton Keynes and Bedford. The service runs late into the evenings and at weekends, and includes a peak time service from Flitwick and Newport Pagnell. The route runs to Milton Keynes railway station connecting travellers to the rail network. As a ‘hail’ service, it means that the Cranfield Connect will stop at any designated bus stop on its route to collect passengers.

Ian Sibbald, Finance Director at the University said: “This is definitely a win-win for the University and the local community. Local people get a more regular service running into the evenings and weekends and the University has access to a bus service which is more financially viable and therefore sustainable.”

All the buses are comfortable and have free WiFi, so you can stay connected on the move. They offer a low, level entrance and space for pushchairs and a wheelchair. The drivers are regulars on the routes so are familiar with the local area.
