Entry requirements

This course is for students who would like to train as a dispensing optician while gaining a degree with a strong focus on the workplace. On completion of the course students may complete their pre-registration period and qualify as a dispensing optician or apply to join BSc Optometry (minimum 2 years).

Objectives

This course leads to a rewarding career as a dispensing optician, a specialist trained to dispense and fit ophthalmic lenses and spectacle frames.

The Foundation Degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing allows students to enter their pre-registration training as a dispensing optician or can lead to further study at degree level. Job prospects are good and the career is interesting and rewarding. The career is suited to those who enjoy working with people.

More about fees

The tuition fee for UK and EU students is £9,250 for the first year of study (2017/18). Fees in each subsequent year of study will be subject to an annual increase limited to the Student Fees Inflation Index as determined by the UK Government’s Office for Budget Responsibility. This index is derived from the All Items Retail Prices Index. We will confirm any change to the annual tuition fee to you in writing prior to you commencing each subsequent year of study.

The tuition fee for Non-EU students is £15,000 for the first year of study (2017/18). Fees in each subsequent year of study may be subject to annual increase, as detailed above for UK and EU students.
