Cardiff University Job Shop

The Jobshop is the student employment service owned and run by Cardiff University Students’ Union and Cardiff University. It was established in the early ’90s and was one of the first student employment services to be set up in the UK. Over the past 20 years we have become a respected and trusted service used by students and employers alike. We are based on the 4th floor of the Students’ Union building.

Looking for casual employment while studying at Cardiff University?

The Jobshop is a free student employment service which aims to find casual employment for registered Cardiff University students. Opportunities are available within the University, the Students’ Union and with local employers.

Assignments offered include bar, catering, admin / clerical, retail and manual handling work amongst others. These can vary in length from just a few hours work to more regular on-going work. For the majority of our vacancies you do not need any prior experience, just lots of enthusiasm and willingness to learn!

Before you are able to use the service, you’ll need to register with the Jobshop by bringing your student ID card and your passport (non-EEA students must also bring their visa/biometric card and proof of term dates) along to the Jobshop on the 4th floor of the Students’ Union building. We’ll then add your details to our database and you’ll start to receive regular updates of our job opportunities. Please be aware that you need to be registered at least 24 hours before undertaking any work through the Jobshop.

The link for the Jobshop online application form is below – you will need to log in using your university credentials. Please note that in order to validate your registration and begin receiving job updates, you must bring your student card and passport (as well as your visa/biometric card and proof of term/vacation dates if you’re a non-EEA student) to the Jobshop during our opening hours of 11am – 2pm Monday – Friday. Your registration will not take effect until you have completed this process.

Students from outside the EEA will need to provide details of their academic term and vacation times for the 2016/2017 academic year. These can be found on the University website for undergraduates / taught masters students. Research Masters and PhD students must provide a letter from their supervisor confirming agreed holiday dates. Please contact us for more information.

If you’re based at the Heath campus and it’s difficult to get to the main SU building, you can register for the Jobshop at the Students’ Union at the Heath (opening hours are 9am – 5pm Monday-Friday).

Once you have been offered some work through us, you will be required to fill out a bank/tax form and student contract so that we can pay you for your work (links to these forms can be found below). Your bank details will then be held by us for the rest of the academic year unless there is a period of 12 weeks or more during which you don’t undertake any work through us (in which case you will be taken off the payroll and we will send you a P45 as confirmation of termination of employment). If you subsequently take further employment through us, you will need to ensure you complete new forms.
