Cardiff University Distance Learning
Our courses allow you to gain a qualification and experience a university education while continuing your employment or other responsibilities.
Distance learning has a number of advantages:
- It gives you the flexibility to study in any convenient location with a suitable internet connection, wherever this is in the World.
- It can allow you to browse and review material, consolidating your learning as you begin to focus on new information and skills.
- It allows you some flexibility to choose when to study in preparing to meet the course deadlines.
- It can be a convenient way of acquiring a postgraduate qualification even if you have irregular work schedules or family responsibilities and tends to be particularly convenient for busy healthcare professionals.
As a student on one of our distance/e-learning courses you will have full access to the university computing service and specifically tailored library services. An extensive collection of electronic resources such as ebooks and journals will be available at your fingertips with an internet connection. You will benefit from inter-library loans, searching skills training and use of citation management software.

Most of our Academic Schools offer part-time courses.
They’re ideal if you need to balance study with employment or family commitments – they provide greater flexibility and a less intensive workload whilst still providing all the benefits and support enjoyed by full-time students.
Part-time courses are usually twice as long as their full-time equivalent. Search our courses for more information.
Benefits and support
You’ll enjoy the same benefits and support as full-time students. See the Supporting your study page for full details.
Fees are spread evenly over the length of your course. Part-time fees are indicated on each course listing. Please be aware that fees quoted are usually for the current or upcoming academic year only, and not necessarily for the entire duration of the programme. For programmes lasting more than one year, tuition fees for subsequent years of study are subject to an increase of no more than 4.5% per year.
Some courses are also available as distance/e-learning options. They include Environmental Design of Buildings, Clinical Pharmacy and a range of courses in our Schools of Medicine, Optometry & Vision Sciences, and Healthcare Sciences.
