Speech and Language Therapy – BSc (Hons) Degree

Course Overview

Please note this course will re-commence in September 2018.

In response to developments in higher education and the NHS, and in line with most other undergraduate courses in the UK, the Cardiff Metropolitan University BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy degree is being redesigned as a three-year course, instead of the current four-year course.

In order to manage the changeover to the new course, it will be necessary for there to be a year in which no students are admitted.  Therefore there will be no intake to the course in September 2017.  Students will be admitted onto the course again in September 2018.

It is anticipated that this change will be beneficial in a number of ways.  It will make it easier for the NHS Speech and Language Therapy Service in Wales to plan its workforce, and it will allow the course to respond more quickly to the changing needs of the people of Wales.  It will also enable students to enter work sooner.

The redesign of the course will help to enhance clinical education, by making it possible for students to undertake more block placements than they do at present.  In addition to the immersion of students in the clinical environment, and their integration into the SLT teams that provide the placements, students will be able to obtain clinical experience in a wider range of locations and clinical settings across Wales than is currently possible.

Information on the new course is likely to be made available in May 2017.
