Social Work

The Centre provides a range of qualifying and post-qualifying programmes in social work in partnership with Local Authority and Voluntary sector employers, Service users and Carer organisations. The programmes are professionally accredited by the Care Council for Wales.

Social work professionals work in a variety of settings, with a variety of people, for example, children, young people, people who are homeless, older people, people with physical or sensory impairments, people with mental health issues. Social workers are employed in the statutory sector by Local Authorities and also in health, voluntary and private sectors. Many students are attracted to social work as an opportunity to make a real difference to the quality of peoples’ lives.

Courses

Courses for Business

Since 2008 we have been offering a range of short courses requiring 5 days attendance per module that are both academically credited and professionally approved by the Care Council for Wales as post qualifying courses. These modules can be accessed as standalone or built into one of the awards.

These modules are specifically designed to support qualified social workers with their Continuous Professional Development and enables qualified social workers to ‘top up’ their professional qualification e.g. DipSW or CQSW to a degree qualification or gain a graduate certificate or diploma if they already hold graduate qualifications. The ability to access modules on a standalone basis enables candidate’s flexible progression according to need over one to three years.
The modular cost is £600 per twenty credit module.

Postqualifying Social Work Modules

Enabling Practice Learning
This module is equivalent to PQ6 in developing the knowledge, skills and values to enable qualified practitioners to develop the practice skills of others (whether qualified or pre-qualifying) in a variety of roles such as practice mentor, supervisor, practice assessor.
