We currently support five academic programmes within the department.  A brief description of each of the programmes follows and further details of the programmes can be found via the links:

The Foundation Course in Social Sciences is a one year programme (for full-time students) or a two-year (for part-time students) which is intended to support students who do not have the necessary A’Level points or for those students who are returning to learning.  The course is intended to support students on their entry into further studies at Cardiff Metropolitan University.  Further information can be found at:

The Psychology BSc(Hons) is a full-time three-year programme which is fully accredited by the British Psychological Society.  Core aspects of psychological knowledge are covered within the first two years of the programme, such as developmental psychology, social psychology, evolutionary psychology, cognitive psychology and research methods.  Optional modules allow for the development of specialist psychological understanding in the third year; options include, for example, clinical psychology, media psychology and forensic psychology.  Further details regarding this course can be found at:

The MSc in Forensic Psychology is a one-year full-time or a two-year part time course and it is the only BPS accredited course of its nature in Wales.  The course has two predominat aims: to develop within students a critical and academic understanding of forensic issues and to introduce students to the professional skills needed to work in a forensic setting.   The MSc has a strong working relationship with NOMS Cymru (National Offender Management Services, Wales) enabling a practice and professional element to this postgraduate course.  Click on the following link for further informarion:—MSc-.aspx

The MSc in Health Psychology also offers full-time (one year) and part-time (two year) routes to study.  This postgraduate course aims to develop awareness of and research into the psychological, environmental, and social aspects of disease and disease prevention; which is closely related to government initiatives (both nationally and in Wales) to maintain health and prevent illness.  More information can be found at:—MSc-.aspx

The department is also proud to support a PG Cert in Practitioner Health Psychology and PG Diploma in Practitioner Forensic Psychology.  Completion is based upon compilation of portfolios of evidence demonstrating development, attendance at workshops and reflection in professional practice.  A work placement is essential to enable demonstration of professional competncies and the course should be completed within one to three years.  Upon successful completion of the programmes students can apply for Registered status with the HPC (Health Professionals Council).
