About Us

Cardiff Metropolitan University through our Equality and Diversity provision aims to create a positive working and learning environment for our staff and students . We want to foster an environment that is diverse and inclusive and where individuals are free from discrimination.

Equality and Diversity Team

Our Equality and Diversity lead at Cardiff Metropolitan University is the Secretary & Clerk to the Governors. We also have an Equality and Diversity Officer who engages with both staff, students and the wider community.

Equality and Diversity Engagement Group

The University has an Equality and Diversity Engagement Group which is an advisory body with the purpose to monitor Cardiff Metropolitan University’s progress in meeting the Equality Act 2010 general duty and the accompanying specific duties.

The group brings together representatives from across the University’s two campuses to discuss and consider ways of improving our equality and diversity provision for staff and students as well as our engagement with the wider community.

The Equality and Diversity Engagement Group reports to our Vice-Chancellors Board. The groups terms of reference can be found here.

Training

Alongside the University’s Organisational Development team our Equality team is responsible for the development and implementation of equality and diversity training. Our Equality team works closely with representatives from across the University to identify, develop and deliver relevant and accessible training for all staff and students.

Mentoring

Cardiff Metropolitan University is part of The Women in Universities Mentoring Scheme (WUMS), an innovative all-Wales scheme that aims to promote and facilitate professional development for women working in Welsh universities.  Initially funded by HEFCW in partnership with Welsh HEIs, WUMS is open to women working in academic and support departments of HEIs in Wales at all levels.

Through this inter-university mentoring partnership, WUMS brings women from different universities together, offering opportunities for early career women staff to link with and learn from more senior and experienced colleagues, and providing networking opportunities.

To find out more about The Women in Universities Mentoring Scheme please visit Bangor University’s website or alternatively contact our Equality and Diversity Officer at equality@cardiffmet.ac.uk.

Equality and Diversity at Cardiff Met

“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood”

Article 1, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, General Assembly of the United Nations, 1948.

Cardiff Metropolitan University is committed to promoting and implementing best practice in Equality and Diversity (E&D) in order to provide a working and learning environment to enable both staff and students to reach their full potential.

We wish to work beyond the legislative requirements in the delivery of E&D policies, and aim for equality of opportunity to be embedded in everything we do. Cardiff Metropolitan University is an organisation where diversity is valued, equality is promoted and services are delivered to support all staff and students.

The University is aware of the need to recognise people’s identities as multi-dimensional and is committed to providing a positive working and learning environment free from discrimination, harassment, and victimisation on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex or sexual orientation.

In Wales, the Welsh language is often included under an equality banner. Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Welsh Language Unit manages the implementation of the Welsh Language Scheme.
