Our programmes

We offer a broad selection of undergraduate degrees, ranging from Animal Science to Biosciences and Ecology and Conservation – these can be taken as single honours, or as part of our combined honours scheme. This provides the flexibility to combine a subject from the Life Sciences with one from another University School.

We also offer MPhil/PhD research in Biological Sciences, spanning all biological levels from molecular analyses to ecosystem study.

Supportive environment

Whether you join us as an undergraduate, or as a postgraduate researcher, you will be supported by a friendly and welcoming team of staff dedicated to helping you achieve your very best. We all share a passion for Life Sciences, and hope that you too will share our passion for learning and sharing knowledge with others.

Research-led teaching

Research is fundamental to everything we do. Our research informs our teaching and we believe it is a vital aspect of intellectual development. Indeed, we have developed a number of key research areas, some of which have gained national and international standing.

Bridging the gap

We strive to bridge the gap between research and teaching. As such we put research and research-like activities at the heart of our curriculum, with a focus on students learning in an active manner and contributing to the research we carry out. In this way, our students don’t just receive knowledge – they actively collaborate in the production of knowledge.

To this end we encourage and support students to be involved with research both within Life Sciences, and with external partners. Over recent years this has involved students being supported by funding from within the University and from external bodies such as Nuffield Foundation, the Genetics Society and Kent Wildlife Trust.
