What was really good about the experience?

Nothing, the teachers talk so much nonsense without any explanation to how we answer questions and explaining to detail what we actually need to know and go off track with teaching. ‘Most of the teachers do not turn up to classes and miss lecture dates. How can we do our best if this is an issue? We pay money to attend and to receive complete bottom line education from here.

What could be improved?

The biggest thing is empathy. Does it exist? .. i had an experience where my mother passed away and because of me being absent for one day when the average bereavement entitlement is 3-5 days paid. Being in a full time working business. They wanted the death certificate as proof the next day. I explained the process of it being sent off to funeral directors etc but this still was not good enough. I completely understand with attendence to university is strict, but again i was ahead of my classes and work schedule. Presentations were all written up and complete and i worked from home around the situation that was.

The opportunities available, like the Pro Bono centre offering students work experience within the legal industry.

What could be improved?

I studied 6 extra modules than other state universities which was a pain; at BPP we learned three modules a semester, having a three week break and then exam time, all exams fitted into two weeks. You could end up having two exams in one day. From what i hear from friends from other universities, they all have at least a week in between exams; at BPP, maybe an hour between exams. During this time is a very stressful period so I do believe the assessment times need to be fixed. There is absolutely NO social life at BPP; most students come here for the reputation BPP holds within the legal and business industry (highly praised), which does mean everyone tends to be more career focused, keeping their heads down. It’s very hard to get a lot of students together; no one seems to bother with a social life here. If you do want to come here, do not expect anyone to be really friendly; there’s a very strong vibe of competitiveness in the air; you are competing for the same training contracts. Teaching could be better, I have had a couple of tutors who were great teachers, yet some not so much. If you came with a problem, if you didn’t understand what was going on within the topic, most tutors would just repeat the lecture slides or just repeat themselves; doesn’t really help to be honest. And they are also very hard to get in contact with, the only way you could contact is via email, where some do not even bother to reply. Pastoral care: absolute joke. There is at least one for the whole of the third year at the moment and she is very rude, doesn’t respond to emails or is never around campus. BPP is still fairly new, but there is still so much they could learn from other universities. I do believe there are better choices out there for undergraduate, but for postgraduate study, BPP is probably best.
