Birmingham City University extends a warm welcome to students from Hong Kong. We have established relationships with partners in Hong Kong including the School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE), Continuous Professional Education Centre Limited (CPE) and Kaplan Hong Kong.

We have much to enjoy in terms of culture and entertainment in our city, including an annual Dragonboat Festival and the celebrations of Chinese New Year – celebrations take place for thousands of visitors including lion dancing and fireworks.

Undergraduate

We are happy to consider the HKDSE – four core subjects plus two/three elective subjects must be successfully completed to obtain Diploma.

Postgraduate

We are happy to consider the Bachelor degree with minimum of 2:2 classification.

Some postgraduate courses require a subject specific undergraduate degree to qualify for entry for example, Law, Computing, Social Sciences, Engineering, etc. Please check the website for this information.

Special requirements

Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) – all undergraduate courses in BIAD require a good portfolio of artwork. Some postgraduate courses also require a portfolio, others require a proposal of studies while some courses require both a portfolio and a proposal of studies. Please check faculty website for specific requirements.

Technology, Engineering and the Environment (TEE) – All undergraduate programmes in the TEE faculty require Mathematics at O Level. However for the Engineering suite and BEng Telecommunication and Networks, Mathematics is required at AS Level minimum Grade C or the equivalent.

Business School – all Business School undergraduate Year 1 courses require Mathematics minimum of Grade C at O Level or the equivalent.

English Language requirement – we are happy to consider the HKDSE English with an overall score of 4 with a minimum of 3 in each element. Otherwise all students are required to achieve the equivalence of a minimum of 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5 from a Secured English Language Test (SELT), the most common being IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or CAE.
