Books are arranged on the shelves by subject and given a shelfmark, which can be found by using the Library catalogue, e.g. books about management are shelved at 658.
Videos and DVDs are shelved in the audio-visual section on level 1 and CDs are usually kept at the ground floor Issue Desk.
Our Library & Information Skills Moodle module has a tutorial that shows you how to use the catalogue.
Print journals are located on level 4 of the Library and arranged alphabetically by title. Birkbeck PhD and MPhil theses are kept in a closed-access store. To request one of these theses fill in and submit the online form. Requests placed on Sunday to Thursday will be available after 13:00 the next day. Requests placed on Friday, Saturday or Sunday will be available after 13:00 on Monday.

Tours of the Library
We run guided tours of the Library at certain times during the year and also whenever we hold one of our Open Evenings. Times and dates will be publicised on our website and via social media

Library Saturday workshops
Like our Library Tours, Saturday workshops are also held at specific times during the year, particularly at the start of the autumn term. These are primarily aimed at newcomers, although all levels of student are very welcome to attend. They deal with a number of the Library tools that you will find most useful during your studies at Birkbeck. They will be publicised on our website and via social media, plus our News Items section will alert you to all upcoming events and new resources.
