As an International Student joining Aston University, there is specific help and information available to you in this section. We can help with visas, pre-arrival, Meet and Greet (for students arriving in September), visa scanning and other Tier 4 student visa regulations.
If you require any help or support before you leave for Aston, please contact our dedicated Pre-Entry Advisers who can help with visa queries or any other questions you may have relating to your arrival. You can contact them by telephone, email or by arranging a Skype appointment. We are here to make your transition to Aston as smooth as possible, so please get in touch.
You could also request to be put in touch with a pre-arrival e-mentor – a current Aston student who knows how it feels starting at Aston as well as moving to a new country, will remember the questions they had when they were in your position and can share their experiences to help you to settle in quickly.
Once at Aston
Once you are at Aston, there are a number of important tasks that you will need to complete in order to be fully enrolled as an Aston student. You may also want to open a bank account, certain students will be required to register with the Police and speak to a member of staff about your tuition fees – you can get help with all of these tasks by visiting The Hub Advice Zone and Finance Centre in the Main Building, this is also where you will find our specialist Immigration Advisers and various other services.
We also have a multi-faith chaplaincy on campus who organise various events throughout the year – more information about the chaplaincy, events and local places of worship can be found here.
For those of you arriving in September, International Orientation is the perfect opportunity for you to sort out the practicalities of moving to another country, meet other international and EU students and begin settling in before the Home students join you for Freshers’ Week.
There are a wide range of events for you to take part in and you can also register for the Meet and Greet Service (September 2016 only) to make your journey from Birmingham Airport, Birmingham New Street Station and Birmingham Coach Station (Digbeth) to Aston University as easy as possible.
When you arrive, we need to take a scan of your passport and your visa.
Before you can complete Stage 4 – Face-to-Face to face Enrollment, please come to The Hub on the ground floor of the Main Building so that we can complete the visa process by taking a scan of your passport and of your visa.
Please note that we must take a copy of your passport and visa if you are an International Student. You will be unable to proceed with face to face enrolment if you have not completed this task.
Before your visa scan
Please ensure that you have completed Stage 2 of enrolment (uploading your photograph) – Upload Photograph before you arrive for your visa scanning session. This is very important in order to avoid delays to your enrolment.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask our dedicated helpers in the Hub – they’re easy to spot in their yellow t-shirts.
When should I get my documents scanned?
For students arriving in September:
For students arriving in September, we have dedicated visa scanners who will be available throughout Aston Welcome.
The Hub will be open throughout Aston Welcome, for you to have your visa scanned. Your Main timetable will indicate a time when you should go to the Hub (on the Ground floor of Main Building) to have your visa scanned.
You must make sure you do this before your face to face enrolment which will take place during International Orientation. If your arrival is delayed, you will be able to get your visa scanned in Freshers’ Week, before you complete face to face Face-to-Face Enrolment.
The Hub’s Aston Welcome Visa Scanning Opening Times 2016
Please refer to your Main timetable for your allocated Visa scanning slot during International Orientation week.
For students arriving outside of Aston Welcome:
If you arrive at Aston outside of the Aston Welcome period, please visit the Visa Compliance Team on the Ground Floor of Main Building to have your passport and visa scanned. The staff at the Hub Reception desk would be happy to give you directions if you’re unsure how to find the Visa Compliance Team.

This year we are trialing a new approach to the Meet & Greet service that we offer. We are extending the days to also include Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September, as well as Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th September 2016.
The Meet & Greet service will be staffed by Aston University Students’ Union Aunties who will be wearing branded tops. Once you have booked onto the service we will give you more information as to where you can find them.
We are also extending where we can meet new incoming students. As well as having a team of Aunties at Birmingham International Airport, we will also be at Birmingham New Street Station, if you arrive via the train.
If you arrive at Birmingham International Airport, we will be able to transfer you to your accommodation, provided you register below in advance.
