Arden University lays down the law with new course offering

Arden University has developed a new Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) which fully meets the requirements of the Solicitors Regulatory Authority and Bar Standards Board.

The QLD is one of the first courses to be developed and offered by Arden University (formerly RDI) since achieving its University Title in August 2015, and is designed to provide students with a flexible and accessible route to achieve their legal ambitions.

Speaking about the new course, Dr Philip Hallam, CEO and VC of Arden University, said: “Law isn’t necessarily the first subject that springs to mind when you think about online learning but it is one in high demand. The enquiries we’ve received showed that there is a real interest in studying this programme flexibly to allow students to work and intern alongside their studies.
“We therefore wanted to develop a QLD that would make high quality legal education much more accessible and affordable, opening it up to students from a range of backgrounds and geographic locations.”

It isn’t just Arden University that has seen increased interest in Law degrees. Back in 2009, the Law Society warned that Law was a profession oversubscribed. However, the cumulative impact of tuition fee hikes, a tough economy, greater national emphasis on opportunities in technical sectors, and growth within the legal market, have all led to a position where law graduates are once again in demand.

In fact in February this year, David Morley, a senior partner at ‘magic circle’ law firm Allen & Overy talked about “an absolute explosion of opportunity for young people entering law.”
