Abertay University Student Support

Student Support and Services

To help you make the most of your time with us, Abertay offers an integrated range of support services covering pastoral and academic matters, delivered by a combination of Student Services, Information Services, the Student Association and academic schools.

Whatever course you’re studying, support is available to help you to develop your skills in different aspects of degree-level work: being an independent learner, thinking critically, writing academically, carrying out research, and giving academic presentations.  Advice and guidance on all of these topics and more is available not just from your course tutors, but also from the Learning Development Advisors, Academic Librarians and IT Trainers.  Prior to arrival, the University also provides a University Preparation Programme, Abertay College Transition Programme and Intensive English Language for Academic Purposes Programme.

The Support Enquiry Zone (SEZ) provides a ‘one stop shop’ for students who require help and advice about any aspect of University life. SEZ can be especially useful if you are not sure where to go or who to ask when you require information of any type. SEZ will be able to help you with most requests immediately. However, if more specialist support is required, it will put you in direct contact with a member of staff or a team who can. As well as weekday opening hours SEZ is also open in the evenings and weekends.

In addition, there are a number of specialist services within the University’s Student Services Directorate that provide high-quality, professional, non-judgemental, confidential counselling, information, advice and guidance on issues related to money, wellbeing, disability and careers. Student Services Directorate includes the Career Development Centre; Disabled Student Support; Learner Development Service; Counselling; International Advice and Welfare; Student Funding Advice; Abertay Language Centre and Faith and Belief.

The Student Association provide an Advice and Welfare Service that can offer impartial advice and advocacy on a range of issues including academic, housing, and general welfare support.
